Congratulations on your pregnancy. This time is full of happiness. Whether you're a first time mom or second time or more you're sure to be a little nervous about pregnancy. So many things change during pregnancy and we're not just talking about your body either. There are things that you can't do and there are things that you can't eat. You may be wondering what you can and can't eat while you're pregnant?

You may be over whelmed by all the information out there on pregnancy but remember this is a joyful time in your life. Follow a few guidelines and you'll be fine. Below is a list that answers the question of "What can't you eat when you're pregnant".

Meats

Most of us enjoy a nice steak every now and then but while you're pregnant you need to avoid undercooked meat at all costs. Make sure there is no pink left before you eat any type of meat. It is also advisable to stay away from lunch meat and hot dogs because they contain listeria bacteria which can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, and illnesses in the newborn baby.

Cheese

Some cheeses are also a no no. You must avoid cheeses such as Brie, Camembert and other similar cheeses. These cheeses are made with mold and they contain listeria bacteria which can cause an infection in the mother. This can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth or an illness in the baby.

Eggs

Make sure if you eat eggs that they are thoroughly cooked including the yellow part. Avoid foods that contain undercooked or raw eggs.

Milk

Do not drink raw milk and don't eat food made from it. This includes goat's milk and sheep's milk.

Liver

Do you best to avoid liver, it contains a lot of Vitamin A and too much of this vitamin can be harmful to your baby.

Fish

You need to limit your intake of tuna and oily fish. In general stay away from fish that are high in mercury, this is harmful to your baby. You need to avoid others such as shark, shellfish, and any other kind of raw fish.

Alcohol

You should avoid all alcohol until after you are done with your pregnancy or until you are finished breast-feeding. Alcohol can cause serious problems for your unborn baby and it's just not worth it!

Caffeine

You need to carefully limit your intake of caffeine during your pregnancy. Aim for about 200 mg a day, no more.

Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are great for you and your growing baby, just make sure to rinse them off before eating them.
