Read on and keep yourself and your baby healthy!
Medications
You should not take any kind of medication, whether it's over the counter or a prescription, without first checking with your OB doctor. Many medications that usually are not harmful to us can cause complications for your unborn child. So, be on the safe side and always check with you doctor.
Just Say No
You already know that it is a bad idea to drink alcohol, smoke, or take drugs while pregnant. But, I will repeat it again because this is very important. The effects on your child caused by these activities can be devastating. Don't risk it, just say NO! None of these are worth the life of your unborn child.
Pets And Pregnancy
You should avoid changing cat litter at all costs, not a bad thing to get out of! There are rare, but very serious complications that can arise from this. Futhermore, avoid handling reptiles such as lizards, iguanas, snakes, or turtles, while you are pregnant.
Chemicals
Try to avoid cleaning supplies and chemicals as much as you can. When using them, If you must, please make sure you are in a well ventilated area.
Take It Easy Mom
Do not partake in any type of dangerous activities while you are pregnant such as sky diving, bungee jumping, scuba diving, amusement park rides, or even jumping on a trampoline. Limit exercise to what you're comfortable doing, you don't want to overdo it while pregnant.
Lifting or moving heavy objects is not allowed. If something must be done, please ask someone else for help. If part of your job includes this kind of strenuous activity, speak to your supervisor and let him know that you are expecting.
Foods You Shouldn't Eat
There are many foods that you must avoid during pregnancy as well. Fish that are high in mercury should not be consumed by pregnant women. Anything raw such as sushi, eggs, or shellfish is a bad idea. Furthermore, liver, under-cooked meat, hot dogs, deli meats, caffeine, herbal teas, and unpasteurized food all need to be avoided until after pregnancy.
Additional Things You Need To Avoid
Additional things to steer clear of until after your pregnancy are:
- Sleeping on your back
- X-Rays
- Tanning
- Water beds
- Hot tubs
- Saunas
- Hot baths
- Electric blankets
- Standing too close to microwaves.
